As part of my campaign to win the seat of Oxley, I visited Kara Kar, one of our local employers. They currently employ at least 40 workers, but have the potential to employ 60 if they could find enough employees. One of the main issues they face is difficulty in finding places to house workers in the Nambucca area. This is a problem that many other businesses in the area have raised as well, along with the high cost of workers’ compensation and difficulty in retaining employees. To address these issues, we need policies that make it attractive for local businesses to stay in the area and keep jobs local. This includes finding ways to help businesses with employee housing and reducing the cost of workers’ compensation. By working together, we can help ensure that local businesses like Kara Kar can thrive and continue to provide valuable employment opportunities for our community.
